The Marooned is an absurdist table-top puppet theatre show written, designed, and directed by Josh Rice, using Bunraku-style puppetry, live foley sound design, live-feed video & projection, shadows, and object puppetry.

The rooftop of a house peaks above the waves in a vast, empty, forever oceanscape. A puppet emerges, and a forever day begins, from the mundane tasks to larger longing questions and existential dilemmas in a metaphorical and literal sea of troubles. The piece explores themes of loneliness, isolation, planetary catastrophe, and escape.

The show premiered at the inaugural New York State Puppet Festival, June 2018. Puppetry by Josh Rice, Leah Ogawa, Josh Marcks, Max Gayford, and Madeleine Dauer. The piece has a running time of 50 minutes.
